California’s Special Election: A Power Grab Disguised as Fairness

California Democrats are pushing a November special election to override the state’s independent redistricting commission and redraw congressional maps, openly aiming to eliminate five Republican-held seats. Governor Gavin Newsom claims it’s a response to redistricting in Texas, but for many Californians, it’s just the latest maneuver in a long pattern of partisan manipulation.

Let’s be clear: Republicans make up over 40% of California’s voters, yet hold just 17% of the legislature. That’s not representation it’s disenfranchisement. And now, instead of respecting the independent commission voters created to prevent gerrymandering, Sacramento Democrats want to rewrite the rules mid-decade to lock in even more power.

Republican Assemblyman Carl DeMaio has called the move “corrupt” and is demanding a legal review, citing multiple violations of the California Constitution. If this goes to the ballot, it won’t just be a vote on maps, it’ll be a vote on whether California still believes in fair play.

“When over 40% of California voters are Republican but only 17% of the legislature reflects that, something’s deeply wrong. Gerrymandering has stripped millions of Californians of their voice and now Sacramento wants to double down. I’m running to restore balance, protect voter representation, and make sure every Californian counts. Because democracy isn’t about rigging the rules. It’s about respecting the will of the people.

Republicans need to rally together against this!! We have 10 weeks to get our message out. Will you help??

We plan on going to local farmers Markest and setting up voter registration tables where people can get information and the truth! Are you willing to volunteer and help us Turn California RED again?

Join The Fight and help us get our message out there!

Carol Pefley for California State Assembly District 28

I’m running for State Assembly to help restore balance and bring common sense back to California’s government. I believe in a future where families can thrive, small businesses can succeed, and opportunity is within reach for all. This is still a great state—and with the right leadership, we can make it more affordable, more accountable, and more hopeful for generations to come.
