What's on the agenda

The Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday morning for its regular session. A number of items on the calendar directly affect housing, land use, and county finances in AD-28's Santa Cruz County communities.

Housing fees and inclusionary housing requirements. The Board will receive reports on the Affordable Housing Impact Fee Nexus Studies and the Inclusionary Housing Feasibility Study, and will direct staff on next steps for implementing Housing Element Programs H-3H and H-3J. These studies set the framework for what the County can charge new development and what it can require of builders.

Short-term borrowing. The Board will consider a resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of 2026-27 Tax and Revenue Anticipation Notes in an amount not to exceed $55 million.

Coastal land use and habitat. A public hearing is scheduled on the Moran Lake Monarch Butterfly Habitat Management Plan, including a Riparian Exception, Biotic Approval, and a CEQA Notice of Exemption.

Supervisor pay. Item 12 asks whether the Board should amend County Code Section 2.02.060 to end the practice of tying Supervisor salaries to Superior Court judges' salaries.

County code and ordinance changes. The Board will consider approving in concept an ordinance amending Chapter 5.48 of the County Code to align with changes in state law, and a second ordinance updating automobile liability insurance requirements for the County.

How to be heard

  • In person: Public comment is taken near the start of the meeting. Speakers are limited to two minutes and may speak once.

  • In writing: Comments emailed to BoardOfSupervisors@santacruzcountyca.gov must arrive by 5:00 p.m. the day before the meeting to be included with agenda materials. Include the agenda item number.

Finding Common Ground in a Polarized World

Join us for a unique community conversation.

A Democrat and a Republican will share why they believe what they believe, not to debate, but to recognize the person behind the politics and explore common ground.

Guided by mediator and psychotherapist Nancy Ross, this interactive event invites the audience to participate, listen, and connect. The goal isn’t to change minds, but to see one another as people, not opponents. I will be speaking as the Republican and Randy from Braver Angels will be the Democrat.

This will take place at the Cupertino Library, 10800 Torre Ave, on Friday January 23rd at 6:30pm.

All are welcome to attend and be part of this hopeful, healing dialogue.
