Closeted Conservatives Are Coming Out! and No, Not in the Way Your Gender Studies Professor Hoped
Turns out, you're not alone in biting your tongue during DEI seminars or pretending to love CRT just to pass Sociology 101. According to new data, a whopping 73% of conservative college students say they’ve hidden their views to avoid backlash. That’s not just a few shy freshmen. I have experienced this first hand as I’ve had a daughter in college for the last four years during the Biden presidency and through the Covid nightmare. I’ve heard the stories and seen the peer pressure to go along with the liberal agenda first hand, and it has made me angry and frustrated.
Why the hush? Because saying “I’m not sure men belong in women’s sports” or “I think illegal immigration is… illegal” can get you side-eyed harder than showing up to class in a Trump sweatshirt.
According to a recent Daily Caller article, a majority of college students who lean conservative say they’ve felt pressured to hide their views on hot-button topics like:
Men in women’s sports
Critical Race Theory
DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Ideology... I mean Inclusion)
Illegal immigration
And yes, even the sacred right to drink whole milk and eat red meat without being called a fascist
Now the silence is cracking. Students are starting to speak up, swap eye rolls in class, and starting to “ come out” without fear of being canceled.
So if you’ve been whispering your thoughts into your ramen bowl at midnight, it’s time to step out of the ideological closet. You’re not alone. You’re not crazy. And you’re definitely not the only one who thinks “equity” sounds suspiciously like grading on vibes.
And as the Biden era winds down, the fog is lifting. Sanity is making a comeback. The days of pretending are numbered and the return to normal is just getting started.
So speak up. Laugh loud. And remember, being conservative on campus or anywhere else isn’t a crime. Don’t be afraid to be who you are! It’s time for conservatives to come out of the closet!!
