Stop AB 495
AB 495, the “Family Preparedness Plan Act of 2025” ( really?) has made its way through the California Assembly and Senate. Now it sits on Governor Gruesome Newsom’s desk, awaiting a signature, or a veto. And while conservatives across the state should absolutely hope he vetoes it, let’s be clear, if he does, it won’t be out of principle. It’ll be a purely political calculation.
If you aren’t already familiar with AB 495, here’s the short version of what it does and why it’s controversial.
AB 495 opens the door to abuse, fraud, and erosion of parental rights. By expanding legal authority to nonrelatives, the bill risks:
Undermining the role of biological parents and legal guardians
Creating loopholes that could be exploited in custody disputes or immigration fraud
Shielding questionable arrangements from public accountability
This bill is about redefining family authority under the guise of emergency planning.
Here’s where things get political. As we all know, Gruesome Newsom or Newscum as President Trump likes to call him, is so obviously positioning himself for a presidential run. Signing AB 495 would please the far-left base but alienate moderates and independents nationwide. A veto, on the other hand, could be spun as “pragmatic” or “balanced” leadership.
Let’s not kid ourselves. If Newscum ( I’ll go with the President’s name for him) vetoes AB 495, it won’t be because he suddenly discovered a love for parental rights or constitutional clarity. It’ll be because he’s chasing votes in Iowa, New Hampshire and other swing states in hopes that people are going to view him as a moderate, even after all of the far left radical policies he loves so much, have destroyed the state of California.
And you know what? That’s fine.
Hope for the Veto. But Don’t Be Fooled
Conservatives should absolutely hope Newsom vetoes AB 495. But we must also recognize the motive which is self-preservation, not principle. If he vetoes it, it’s not a win for our values, it’s a win for his ambitions but it’s also a win for our children and that’s really the most important thing here.
A veto is a veto. And in this case, it would stop a deeply flawed bill from becoming law.
So pray for the veto. Push for it. Call it out. And if it happens, don’t thank Newscum, thank the pressure, the spotlight, and the fact that even selfish ambition can sometimes work in our favor. We all know the truth about California and how the progressives have made it unlivable for so many people. Let’s not forget what they’ve done but let’s hope and pray that we can stop AB 495 from becoming law in California. So please, take a few minutes to call Newscum’s office tomorrow and ask him to Veto AB 495.
