Democratic Socialist Of America, Who Are They And What Do They Want?

Democratic Socialist Of America, Who Are They And What Do They Want?

The recent elections have ushered in a fresh wave of democratic socialists, all promising a glorious new era of fairness, opportunity, and prosperity. According to them, we’re about to enter a magical land where everyone gets more chances, more support, and naturally, more free stuff.

But should anyone actually believe this? Will people really have more opportunities when the government takes over everything from housing to healthcare? Or will we all just enjoy the “equal opportunity” of standing in the same line for the same rationed services? Free stuff for everyone sounds great until you remember that it’s historically been a universal license for laziness and a reliable way to lower the standard of living for absolutely everyone except for the elite controlling the system.

But before we get into the agenda, let’s talk about who’s actually pushing this movement.

Democratic socialists brand themselves as the party that represents the average worker, minorities, and the underclass. It’s a compelling story if you don’t look at their own membership data.

According to DSA’s own surveys, they are actually 90% white, 75–80% college‑educated, mostly middle‑class urban professionals and only about 6% in traditional labor jobs.

So the movement that claims to speak for “the workers” is basically a club of affluent, white, college‑educated liberals cosplaying as revolutionaries.

What is their end game and how do they plan on achieving it?

The “end game” of democratic socialism is pretty simple: the confiscation of private property and private wealth. Not immediately, not with a dramatic Soviet‑style midnight knock on the door, but slowly, bureaucratically, and with a smile.

It always starts with “tax the rich. Then tax unrealized gains, tax net worth, tax inheritance, tax property, tax “excess profits”, tax “inequality”, tax “privilege” and offer reparations with your tax money to those they feel have been treated unfairly.

Also open borders and allow unlimited immigration, pack the courts, kill the Electoral College, end the filibuster, add new states, defund police, empty the prisons and no voter ID.

Next, distance from Israel, cozy up to Hamas‑aligned groups, restore funding to regimes that hate us. Nationalize airlines, healthcare and utilities. Freeze rents, make private ownership unprofitable. “Solve the crisis” by taking over housing.

This is exactly what happened in: East Germany, Cuba, Venezuela,

Soviet Russia and many other countries. Every time it was tried, the result was the same: Housing shortages, crumbling buildings, and zero incentive to maintain anything. But hey, everyone suffered equally, so it was “fair.”

Every country that embraced communistic policies, no exceptions, ended up with: confiscated property, confiscated wealth, confiscated businesses and confiscated land.

And once the government owns everything, guess what? The government decides wages, prices, production, ownership and distribution. You own nothing and have relinquished all power and control over your own life.

But don't worry. They promise you'll be happy!

Carol Pefley for California State Assembly District 28

I’m running for State Assembly to help restore balance and bring common sense back to California’s government. I believe in a future where families can thrive, small businesses can succeed, and opportunity is within reach for all. This is still a great state—and with the right leadership, we can make it more affordable, more accountable, and more hopeful for generations to come.
