Hands Up, Wallets Out: California’s Gas Tax Pickpocketing Continues July 1st. Get Ready To Pay Even More At The Pump!
California drivers, brace yourselves, the annual wallet raid takes place again on July 1st. Yes, the gas tax jumps again and will now be 63.4 cents per gallon, officially the highest in the nation. Diesel climbs to 48.2 cents. And once you stack taxes, fees, and fuel mandates, Sacramento is quietly siphoning about $1.35 extra per gallon.
California built a system where gas taxes rise automatically every year. Families don’t get automatic raises, but the state gets automatic revenue. If a business did this, we’d call it gouging.
Assembly Republicans have made numerous proposals to pause these automatic hikes. They don’t get far. Every attempt to freeze or suspend the gas‑tax increase was rejected by the Democrat legislative majority. That includes budget amendments and bills to halt the inflation adjustment. Our Assemblymember Gail Pellerin voted with her caucus each time, opposing efforts to pause the increase to help struggling families.
Between gas taxes, fuel mandates, and mileage‑tax proposals, it’s clear driving is being treated like a privilege or a luxury. Most Californians don’t have the option to bike their kids to school or teleport to work. They drive because they have to and Sacramento knows this.
So in November when it's time to vote for your representatives, remember this. Relief for struggling Californians? Not with our current legislature! Gas, groceries, housing, utilities everything is up. Proposals to pause the gas tax or roll back costly rules?
Rejected by the Dem supermajority.
July 1st is another Reminder that families asked for relief.
Another reminder that our current representatives do not care about our struggles. Another reminder that the pickpocketing has to stop. Taxpayers are running out of pockets.
This November, vote for policies, not parties.
